International Yoga Day 

                                                                                 The International Day of Yoga is popularly celebrated across countries on June 21 every year to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of yoga.


                                      The International Day of Yoga is widely celebrated across countries on June 21 annually since 2015 in a bid to raise awareness regarding the importance and benefits of yoga. The day is observed to bring body, mind, and spirit into balance. This form of exercise which entails maintaining a specific diet, keeping a specific physical posture, and practising breathing techniques, originated in India thousands of years ago. 

International Yoga Day History :

                                                                     On September 27, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the first time, presented the idea of an International Day of Yoga during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Later on December 11, 2014, the UNGA declared June 21 to be observed as World Yoga Day or International Yoga Day.

Since 2015, International Yoga Day has been observed on June 21. 


 World Yoga Day 2022 theme  :
                                 This year's International Day of Yoga's theme is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. As the world witnessed the deadly COVID-19 pandemic which has not only been difficult for our physical health, but they also had a negative impact on our mental health. Therefore, to address health issues including depression and anxiety, adapting to yoga in such a situation has become a must.

  '' The United Nations said, “People around the world embraced yoga to stay healthy and rejuvenated and to fight social isolation and depression during the pandemic. Yoga is also playing a significant role in the psycho-social care and rehabilitation of Covid-19 patients in quarantine and isolation. It is particularly helpful in allaying their fears and anxiety.

MAHARANA PRATAP PUNYATITHI

The Rajput king of Mewar, Maharana Pratap is known as a fearsome warrior and an excellent combat strategist, who protected the Mewar region against repeated onslaughts from the Mughals. The ruler of Mewar, Maharana Pratap was born on May 9 in the year 1540. He was the eldest son of Uday Singh II, founder of Udaipur, and Maharani Jaiwanta Bai.











As per the Hindu calendar, his Jayanti is celebrated on the third day of the month of Jyeshta. But as per the English calendar the birth anniversary of the 13th Rajput king of Mewar - Pratap Singh I is celebrated every year on May 9. Maharana Pratap had three younger brothers - Shakti Singh, Vikram Singh and Jagmal Singh. He also had had 2 stepsisters.

When Mahara Pratap became the King? 

 Maharana  Pratap became the King of Mewar in 1572, after the death of Udai Singh. He was the 13th Rajput king of Mewar, Rajasthan.

The 'mountain man'

Maharana Pratap is revered as one of the strongest warriors India has ever seen. Standing at 7 feet 5 inches, he would carry an 80-kilogram spear and two swords weighing around 208 kilograms in total. He would also wear an armor weighing 72 kilograms.

First native freedom fighter

Pratap had rebuilt his capital in the city of Chavand, around 60 kilometers south of Udaipur, and spent the rest of his life there. Because of his fight for freedom against the Mughals, Maharana Pratap is widely regarded as India's first native freedom fighter.

  India observes Indian Air Force Day every year on October 8 because, on this day, the Air Force in India was officially raised as the supporting force of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom in 1932. Every year, Indian Air Force Day is celebrated at Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The celebrations are marked in the presence of the IAF chief and senior officials of the three-armed forces.

On this day, the most crucial and vintage aircraft put up a magnificent show which is displayed in the open sky.

History of Indian Air Force Day

Also known as ‘Bharatiya Vayu Sena’, the Indian Air Force was established in the country on October 8, 1932, by the British Empire. The first operational squadron came into being in April 1933. However, it was only after the participation in World War II, that the Air Force in India came to be known as the Royal Indian Air Force.

The Air Force in India was officially raised in 1932 as the supporting force of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. Since then, the day has been celebrated every year as Indian Air Force Day.

Indian Air Force Day 2021: Significance and importance

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm and a crucial organ of the Indian armed forces which plays a vital role in the wars fought by the country. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and conduct aerial activities during armed conflicts within nations.

The Indian Air Force has taken part in several wars since independence, including four wars with Pakistan and one with the People’s Republic of China.

Interestingly, the Indian Air Force not only safeguards Indian territory and national interests from all threats but also provides support during natural calamities in the country. Hence, the day is celebrated to honour and recognise the selfless efforts of our jawans and the entire force.

The celebrations on Indian Air Force Day are marked every year with a unique theme. Last year, the theme was “the untiring efforts and supreme sacrifices of its personnel”. Meanwhile, in 2019, the nation witnessed the theme of “know your Air Force”.

- The Indian Air Force (IAF) is ranked the fourth largest operational air force in the world. Only the US, China and Russia are ahead of India.

- The motto of the Indian Air Force is ‘Nabham Sparsham Deeptham’, which literally means ‘Touch the Sky with Glory’. Interestingly, IAF has taken its motto from the eleventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita.

- The Indian Air Force employs over 1,400 aircraft and about 170,000 personnel.

- Hindon Air Force station, situated in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, is the largest airbase in entire Asia. It is also the 8th largest in the world.

- IAF has always taken part in relief operations during natural calamities in the country, including the Gujarat cyclone (1998), the tsunami (2004) and floods in North India. However, IAF made a world record while rescuing civilians stranded during the Uttarakhand flash floods. The mission was named ‘Raahat’ during which the IAF rescued about 20,000 people.

- IAF has also been an important part of various operations such as Operation Poomalai, Operation Vijay, Operation Meghdoot and more.

- IAF even works with the United Nations in peacekeeping missions.

- IAF has included a significant number of women fighter pilots, women navigators and women officers who provide their services to the Indian Air Force. Even the Rafale fleet of the IAF has a woman fighter pilot.

Every year April 22 is celebrated as Earth day.It is not a public holiday but people pay respect to mother Earth in their own ways with outdoor performances, spreading awareness and presenting acts of service to Earth. Typical activities include planting trees, Cleaning surroundings, conducting various programs for recycling and conservation, and using recyclable containers for snacks and lunches aiming collectively to stop global warming and avoiding environmental destruction

Earth Day 2021: Theme

The theme for Earth Day 2021 is "Restore Our Earth and it'' focuses on natural processes and emerging green technologies that can restore the world's ecosystems. In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation is the only way to address climate change.''

Earth Day 2021: History and significance

Earth Day is observed on April 22 since 1970. The day is commemorated every year to highlight environmental issues like loss of biodiversity, increasing pollution among others. On April 22, 1970, when the first Earth Day was marked, around 10 per cent of the entire United States population — back then around 20 million — took to streets across cities and colleges to protest against the negligence of the environment. The protesters also demanded a new way forward for the planet.

People observe Earth Day by planting trees, cleaning roads, beaches, conducting various programmes to motivate people to adopt ways for sustainable living. Schoolchildren are made aware of the environment and the various hazards it is facing and to make our Earth a sustainable place to live.

Decade of Sun

Sun is the centre of our solar system. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has been observing the Sun for more than a decade now. The SDO has collected 425 million high-resolution images of the Sun over the last decade.

NASA recently shared a 10-year time-lapse of the Sun in a video titled "A Decade of Sun". "This 10-year time lapse showcases photos taken at a wavelength of 17.1 nanometers, which is an extreme ultraviolet wavelength that shows the Sun’s outermost atmospheric layer – the corona," NASA said.
